About
Sports Backers
Sports Backers has been at the forefront of the Fall Line since its inception, first introducing the concept in 2017 and continuing to champion its development today. Working in close partnership with regional and local stakeholders, the nonprofit—on a mission to inspire active living—plays a central role in coordinating efforts to bring the 43-mile trail to life.

Sports Backers, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, inspires people in the Richmond Region, and beyond, to live actively. Our Events and Programs are designed to foster active lifestyles for everyone. We achieve this work by focusing on a network of collaborative partnerships with other organizations, businesses, local governments, and faith based institutions. In order to have transformational change, we realize we can’t do it all alone, but rather we work to build a movement of change in our community to make active living the easy choice.
Our mission is to inspire people to live actively.
Fall Line Involvement
As the original creators of the Fall Line trail concept in 2017, Sports Backers partners with all seven local governments, the Virginia Department of Transportation, PlanRVA, the Central Virginia Transportation Authority, and the Crater Planning District Commission to help bring the trail to life. The organization continues to coordinate the project through the Friends of the Fall Line workgroup—managing the website, marketing, events, volunteer engagement, and advocacy for funding and trail amenities.
Now located along the Fall Line, Sports Backers’ newly renovated headquarters serves as both its operational base and a hub for community activity. The space includes offices, a multi-purpose fitness and training room, meeting space, outdoor areas, and direct trail access—supporting thousands of participants each year through group fitness classes, youth programs, advocacy trainings, and partner gatherings.
Through this work, Sports Backers continues to advance safer, more accessible walking and biking infrastructure while inviting people across the region to join in its mission to inspire active living.
